Special notice: Draft H.R. 4173 on financial industry regulatory restructuring

12/03/09: Draft H.R. 4173, Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2009. Legislation.

This is a six-title draft bill on proposed regulatory restructuring for the U.S. financial industry. It contains all related bills cleared by the House Financial Services Committee and is expected to be sent to the House floor next Wednesday for consideration. Delivered to the Rules Committee on Wednesday, it affects credit unions, banks, thrifts, the securities industry, commodities activities and insurance. It abolishes the Office of Thrift Supervision. The Senate has yet to act on similar legisation, though a proposal has been drafted.

Key H.R. 4173 titles of interest to credit unions are Titles I, II and IV, on financial stability measures, executive compensation and consumer financial protections. The House Rules Committee will set the rules for consideration and debate on the bill.
